Our graduate awarded a distinction in the competition of the Polish Association "Green Roofs"
Master's thesis entitled "Invisible Monument" by Adam Wodzyński, M.Sc. Eng. of Architecture was appreciated for the idea and design solutions combining the history and identity of the place with the provision of greenery in the very center of the city.
The quarter development of the city center was typical of pre-war Warsaw. Richly decorated tenement houses, representative alleys and a high density of buildings were the flagship of the capital. The modern city center needs a representative space worthy of the name of a European metropolis.
The author of the awarded design, as an inspiration and a model, used the historical spatial arrangement of the quarter development of the city center of Warsaw.
The aim of his concept was to create a useful space for the city's residents, combining service and cultural functions.
In his work, Adam Wodzyński, M.Sc. Eng. of Architecture used solutions and technologies which - integrated into the city park - will allow to create a green air filter for the capital city.
The focal point of the author's analysis were the remains of the basements of tenement houses in the area of Świętokrzyski Park, which are the starting point for the entire development.
The project involves the restoration of the former street grid and the existing building lines, adding new cubatures and cutting out cubes in the area referring to the shape of courtyards.
The thesis awarded a distinction in the Polish Association "Green Roofs" competition was defended at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology in 2020. It was supervised by Justyna Zdunek-Wielgołaska PhD, Eng. of Architecture.
