Our student completes internship at CERN

Kerem Altun during his internship at CERN

Kerem Altun from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology completed a two-month internship at the CERN research centre. He worked in the SCE-FS (Site and Civil Engineering – Future Studies) team, which is responsible for planning and overseeing all future particle colliders.

How does the Warsaw University of Technology student recall his time in Switzerland?

"My main task was to determine the preliminary alignment (depth, angle, inclination, and location of access shafts) for a tunnel that is currently in the feasibility study phase.

During this internship, I had the pleasure of working with the team responsible for planning and executing the Future Circular Collider (a 91-kilometre tunnel beneath Geneva – it will be the largest particle collider on Earth).

I had the opportunity to visit OpenSkyLab – a project aimed at finding alternative ways to reuse spoil from the FCC excavation. For me, it was an absolutely incredible experience, as I had written about this very place in my bachelor's thesis."
