Prof. Krzysztof Kulpa runs the Laboratory of Radiolocation Techniques on a daily basis, and is also the deputy director of the University Research Centre for Defence and Security. He specializes in the field of signal processing using digital techniques, in particular radar signals.

He has published more than 500 articles on radar technology, including more than 100 on passive radar, and has worked extensively with military experts to integrate passive radar with command and control networks and deploy them on the modern battlefield. Since 1999, he has worked for the NATO Science and Technology Organization (STO), where he has headed several research groups and a series of lectures, mainly in the Sensors and Electronics Technology Panel (SET). He has won the SET Panel Excellence Award.

Prof. Krzysztof Kulpa is a laureate of many awards of the Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology for didactic, scientific and organizational achievements. He has received the Medal of the National Commission, the Gold Cross of Merit and the Gold Medal "For merits for the defense of the country".

The von Kárman Medal is awarded for his commitment to international scientific and technical cooperation in NATO and for his contribution to the activities of the NATO Science and Technology Organization. This is the most important award in the field of defence in NATO countries. It has been awarded since 1972 and has so far been awarded to 53 people.

Prof. Kulpa is the first laureate from Poland.
