Professor Krzysztof Zaremba elected the Rector of Warsaw University of Technology
During the election sitting on 25 June 2020, the Electoral College elected Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, Phd, DSc, for the post of the Rector of Warsaw University of Technology for the 2020–2024 term.
Two candidates – Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, PhD, DSc, and Professor Władysław Wieczorek, PhD, DSc – applied for the post of the Rector of Warsaw University of Technology for the 2020–2024 term. In the voting of the Electoral College, which was selected from the university community, Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, PhD, DSc, received 71 votes. At the election sitting, there were 115 out of 115 electors. All the votes were valid.
During the pre-election meeting, which took place on 23 June 2020 and was organised by videoconference, candidates for the post of the Rector of WUT presented their election programmes. According to Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, PhD, DSc, the most important objectives include:
- becoming the leading academic centre in the region, contributing to scientific discoveries and shaping trends in the development of tomorrow’s technology;
- improving the effectiveness of mechanisms for supporting the quality of education;
- integration and popularisation of the methods for the digital support of didactics, both in terms of educational content as well as administrative issues;
- improving University’s everyday functioning;
- creating conditions for the better use of common scholarhip and support programmes as well as developing Warsaw University of Technology’s own scholarship and support programmes;
- developing ambitious and creating new technical standards vision of spacial development of Warsaw University of Technology and continuing current activities aimed at improving the quality of infrastructure and comfort of use.
"I stand for the post of the Rector of Warsaw University of Technology in order to enhance the sense of University community which is the condition for completing all expected and unexpected actions we will have to take during the upcoming term of office," emphasised Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, PhD, DSc, in his programme.

Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, PhD, DSc – the Dean of the Faculty of Electronic and Information Technology of WUT (in 2012–2016 and 2016–until now), the former Head of the Nuclear and Medical Electronics Division (2004–2016). A member of the team which prepared the application for granting Warsaw University of Technology the status of Research University (2018–2019).
Research and construction interests of Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, PhD, DSc, are at the crossroads of Electronics and Physics, and they encompass nuclear electronics, mainly the construction of radiation detectors and measurement systems, used in radiation research. Professor Zaremba also conduts research in the field of biomedical engineering. At the beginning, he worked on medical usage of Roentgen fluorescence analysis, then on medical imaging techniques as well as the issues of data analysis in genomics and proteomics.
He is the author or co-author of over 170 scientific publications published in journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) Science Edition database as well as over ten technical reports published in foreign centres. He is the author of many expert reports. Professor Zaremba managed or manages 24 research projects, three structural and implementation projects and 22 other projects.

Electoral procedure
The Rector of the University is elected by the Electoral College. The College consists of the representatives of all university community groups: academic staff, other employees, PhD students and students. Electors are chosen separately by each university community group at the faculty or in the electoral constituency.
The candidates for the Rector are proposed by the University Council and at least 7 members of the Senate. On 11 March 2020, the University Electoral Commission received from the University Council and the Senate members the nomination of Professor Władysław Wieczorek, PhD, DSc, and Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, PhD, DSc, for the post of the Rector of WUT for 2020–2024 term. Both granted their consent for taking part in the election. On 5 June 2020, the University Council and the group of 13 members of the WUT Senate announced the candidacies of Professor Władysław Wieczorek, PhD, DSc and Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, PhD, DSc, for the post of the WUT Rector. The WUT Senate stated the opinion on these nominations.
The pre-elective meeting with candidates for the post of the Rector was organised on 23 June 2020 by videoconference. The election took place on 25 June 2020.
The term of office of the Rector of Warsaw University of Technology is 4 years and begins on 1 September of the election year and ends on 31 August of the year when the term of office expires.
Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, PhD, DSc – the Rector-elect, will replace the Rector of Warsaw University of Technology Professor Jan Szmidt, PhD, DSc, who held that function during the previous two terms of office, i.e. in the years 2012–2016 and 2016–2020.
