Students' 2023 Freedom Pavilion with an international award
Last year's Freedom Pavilion, which was created as part of the ‘Erecting it’ project, won the international 2023 Faith & Form Religious Architecture & Art Award in the category: Sacred Landscape. The building was designed and built by students and lecturers from the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology.
The statuette was presented at the AIA Conference on Architecture and Design (AIA24) in Washington DC. On behalf of the creators, the award was received by: Anna Maria Wierzbicka, PhD, Professor at the Warsaw University of Technology - the main initiator and originator of the ‘Erecting it’ project, Maciej Kaufman, MSc, and representatives of the sponsor.
The Freedom Pavilion was created as part of last year's A3 specialisation course - Architecture of Technology and Structure, Context and Meaning - conducted at the Faculty of Architecture under the supervision of Anna Maria Wierzbicka, PhD, Professor at WUT. The object is shaped like a circle, which, due to its finite nature, represents perfection and unity. It was also an integral part of last year's international academic conference "Architecture of Challenges - Reconstruction of Ukraine".
Same Pavilion, new location
The building originally stood in the Royal Łazienki Park, near the Hermitage. This year - after it was transferred to the Warsaw Municipal Greenspace Authority - the installation gained a new location. This summer, you can visit the Pavilion in its Vistula location - on the Vistula Boulevards next to the Pyta Desantu Memorial Monument, halfway between the Łazienkowski Bridge and the Poniatowski Bridge.
You are also welcome to visit this year's Pavilion of the Future - the site is open to the public until the end of November in the Garden behind the Hermitage in the Royal Łazienki Park.
