TOP 2% Scientists 2025 – growing number of our researchers
As many as 83 representatives of the Warsaw University of Technology have been included in this year's edition of the World's TOP 2% Scientists ranking. This is an improvement over last year's result, when 77 of our researchers were listed. The ranking, prepared by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, showcases scientists whose work has the greatest impact on the development of global science.
The World's TOP 2% Scientists ranking consists of two lists. The first covers scientists' entire careers (based on data dating back to 1960), while the second focuses on bibliometric data from the most recent calendar year. In the career-long classification, 69 WUT researchers were listed, while in the single-year ranking, 46 researchers were included. In total, this gives 83 names, as some of our researchers appear on both lists.
In terms of scientific fields, the largest number of our representatives come from Engineering (27 people). Other fields include Enabling & Strategic Technologies (23), Physics & Astronomy (11), Information & Communication Technologies (10), Chemistry (7), Clinical Medicine (2), and one representative each in Biomedical Research, Earth & Environmental Sciences, and Mathematics & Statistics.
The list covering career-long impact includes 1,412 Polish scientists representing 203 institutions (universities, research institutes, and corporate R&D departments). The list based on single-year impact features 1,432 individuals from 208 national institutions.
The authors of the ranking use a set of bibliometric indicators, such as the number of citations, the h-index, and the hm-index (Schreiber-adjusted index), which accounts for co-authorship. The researcher's role in a publication—such as being the first or last author—is also taken into account. To ensure comparability of results across disciplines, the analysis applies a composite score (c-score) that combines measures of career achievements and scientific impact. The ranking covers 22 major scientific fields and numerous subfields, allowing for detailed analysis of researchers' contributions worldwide.
The full ranking is available on the Elsevier site.
