WUT Team in the final of the European hackathon
The KN Biomaterials team is participating in the final of the Read Write Grow European Synthetic Biology Hackathon.
Representatives of the Biomaterials Student Research Group, operating at the WUT Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, took part in the final of the Read Write Grow European Synthetic Biology Hackathon – an event dedicated to innovations in the field of synthetic biology.
34 teams from all over Europe entered the competition, and the 10 best teams made it to the finals. Our university was represented by Łukasz Matusiak, Dominik Kurnicki, Jakub Grzęda, and Karolina Komar.
The team’s project was called SporeSense and involved the creation of a moisture sensor based on hygro-morphic bacterial spores.
“It was a great experience for our team, composed mainly of new members of the Biomaterials Student Research Groups. It provided an opportunity to test their ideas and commence research projects under expert supervision,” says Łukasz Matusiak. “It was also a great opportunity to combine individual ideas with collective action for the benefit of the entire group. For our student research group, this marks a step towards reaching a wider group of science enthusiasts – something we promote every day.”
