WUT doctoral student at a conference and summer school in China
Anna Łabęda, MSc, from the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology took part in the International Symposium on Innovation and Future Perspective in Silsesquioxane Chemistry (IFSC 2025) and the accompanying Summer School & Young Scientists Forum, held from 18 to 31 July 2025. The event, organized by Shandong University (山东大学) in Jinan (China) under the leadership of Prof. Hongzhi Liu, brought together researchers from all over the world, creating a unique space for the exchange of knowledge and experience.
During the conference, the young researcher presented the results of the first stage of her doctoral studies in a presentation titled: “Polyurethane coatings functionalized with Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxanes for anti-icing applications.”
The research involved evaluating the properties of polyurethane coatings modified chemically to enhance their hydrophobic and icephobic properties. The next phase of the project will involve laser processing. The coatings, primarily intended for the aviation industry, aim to improve flight safety, energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, and minimize environmental impact.
The summer school programme included lectures by leading experts in the field of silsesquioxane chemistry, hands-on workshops on advanced analytical techniques, as well as visits to state-of-the-art laboratories and industrial facilities. Participation in IFSC 2025 enabled the student to broaden her scientific knowledge and research skills, as well as establish valuable international contacts and become familiar with a different academic culture. This was an experience that will undoubtedly pay off in her further scientific work. In addition to scientific knowledge exchange, the summer school programme also fostered cultural interaction, creating a truly international and interdisciplinary academic environment.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Prof. Hongzhi Liu and the entire organizing team at Shandong University for their exceptional hospitality, well-prepared programme, and warm atmosphere,” says Anna Łabęda. “It was an unforgettable experience — both professionally and personally.”
The trip took place within the framework of collaboration with Shandong University (Jinan, China) and was co-financed by the Chinese Government Short-Term Scholarship and the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” project at Warsaw University of Technology.
