WUT scientist in the Royal Society of Chemistry
Paweł Borowiecki, PhD, from the Faculty of Chemistry, has been invited to join an elite organization for chemists from all over the world.
This distinction is the result of a high level of scientific articles published by our researcher in prestigious journals published by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Paweł Borowiecki, PhD, is the first author of the publication ”Chemoenzymatic deracemization of lisofylline catalyzed by a (laccase/TEMPO)-alcohol dehydrogenase system” (in the journal ”Catalysis Science & Technology”) and ”Development of a novel chemoenzymatic route to enantiomerically enriched β-adrenolytic agents. A case study toward propranolol, alprenolol, pindolol, carazolol, moprolol, and metoprolol” (in the journal ”RSC Advances”).
The researcher is employed as assistant professor at the Faculty of Chemistry, exactly at the Chair of Biotechnology of Medical Products and Cosmetics. For two years, P. Borowiecki, PhD, has been leader of his research team in the Laboratory of Biocatalysis and Biotransformation, which despite its short scientific activity has had a number of successes in the field of biocatalysis and medical chemistry.
– The research done by my team promotes the use of innovative and environmentally friendly biotechnological synthesis procedures that employ enzymes as catalysts of key chemical transformations, which perfectly matches the modern trends of global economy – stresses P. Borowiecki, PhD.
The results of the research of his team are potential support for the development of Polish pharmaceutical industry by being a source of knowledge to develop generic medicines and new pharmacologically active substances.
In near future, P. Borowiecki, PhD, is planning many scientifically ambitious research projects, including, for example, development of efficient and highly selective chemoenzymatic processes based on fusion of biocatalysis and photocatalysis with the use of visible light.
The Royal Society of Chemistry is an organisation founded in 1980, which associates chemists from all over the world, publishes books and journals, organises events and works towards development of chemical sciences. Being its member is an important distinction for every researcher.
