Teodor Sawicki, a student of Power Engineering at the WUT Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering, has won the competition organized by the Świadomi Klimatu Foundation.

In his work, Teodor Sawicki focused on Poland’s dependency on fossil fuels in the power and heating sector until 2050.

His paper opens with a list of Poland’s commitments resulting from climate change agreements. The student analyzed the current situation in the Polish power engineering and heating sector, identifying the renewable energy sources used to generate heat and power and specifying the most cost effective ones. The analysis was extended to include an energy security context. As a summary, the author included a detailed description of how renewable energy is generated and outlined the sector’s development outlooks until 2050.

All competition entries were evaluated by a jury consisting of power engineering researchers and practitioners. They selected projects with clear scientific merits coupled with an unconventional approach to the topic.

The winner of the competition is an active member of the Energy Student Research Group.
