Warsaw Design Factory
The official opening
The main purpose of Warsaw Design Factory is to build a forward-looking and innovative institution of higher education, interdisciplinary and creative junior research teams and a fully dedicated academic staff. The initiative was officially launched on June 25, 2018 at the Warsaw University of Technology’s Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer Management (CZIiTT).
Warsaw Design Factory is intended as a platform for courses, workshops, training sessions and programs for students and the staff. All projects are to facilitate closer collaboration between science and the business and to promote teaching excellence among the staff of the Warsaw University of Technology. One part of the undertaking is a new workshop space for all students and student research groups, or the WDF Maker Space, to be located at the Warsaw University of Technology’s Student Residence Hall “Bratniak”. The place is intended as a space for students to develop their professional skills and thus to improve the projects of the research groups at any time of the day or night.
As stressed by Kinga Kurowska-Wilczyńska, PhD Eng., Warsaw Design Factory Coordinator, at the opening ceremony, people of the various units of the Warsaw University of Technology teamed up on this venture. Such an abundance of skills and experiences is to help drive innovation at the Warsaw University of Technology. “We have recently become part of a global community, the Design Factory Global Network and the SUGAR Network,” added Doctor Kurowska-Wilczyńska.
Professor Krzysztof Lewenstein, PhD Eng., Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, addressed the growing role of project work, a competence that WDF is in good position to instill with redoubled power in both the University students and staff.
The guests to the event could learn more about the innovative projects executed by WUT students.
The other highlight of the day was the signing of agreements between the Warsaw University of Technology and two companies: Willson&Brown and PKO Finat. The agreements concern implementation of domestic and international educational projects conducted at our University.
