Prof. M. Stanley Whittingham will visit our University on November 21-22, 2022

The Nobel Prize winner in chemistry in 2019 will receive a doctorate honoris causa title from the Warsaw University of Technology, will meet its authorities, researchers, doctoral students and students, and will also give an open lecture.

The researcher works at the State University of New York at Binghamton (Binghamton University). During his long career, he has also received many other awards and distinctions. These include Young Author Award (The Electrochemical Society, 1971), the Battery Research Award (2003), Award for Lifetime Contributions, (the American Chemical Society, 2010), Thomson Reuters Citation Award (2015), ISSI Senior Scientist Award (2017), Turnbull Award (MRS, 2018). In 2018, he became a member of the National Academy of Engineering (USA).

The professor's name became widely known in October 2019, when he became one of the winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (alongside Prof. John B. Goodenough and Prof. Akira Yoshino). The distinction was awarded for the development of lithium-ion batteries. This is a topic particularly close to the Warsaw University of Technology – our researchers have been participating in the work on modern battery solutions for years and have even had the opportunity to cooperate with Prof. Whittingham
