"ADAŚ" – a miniature version of the autonomous electric car

Students from the ADek Science Club  create advanced driver assistance systems to improve road safety. These are currently being tested in the autonomous electric car, "ADAŚ", which has appeared on streets of Warsaw.

– Most road accidents are caused by human error, as much as 94 percent – emphasizes Jakub Tomaszewski. – We're working on advanced driver assistance systems to keep both the driver and pedestrians safe – he adds.

In order to test the original ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), young engineers have created a miniature version of the car that is entirely electric but also smart. "ADAŚ," as it was affectionately named, is demonstrating its capabilities on the streets of Warsaw.

– Currently, "ADAŚ" is capable of detecting the road course, both horizontal and vertical road signs, and most importantly, responding to the current situation on the road – explains Mikołaj Chwojnicki.

– "ADAŚ" is basically a small testing platform for our systems – adds Jakub Tomaszewski.

The implementation of advanced driver assistance systems in a full-size vehicle will be the next step in their development. The Club's members came up with the idea of constructing an autonomous off-road car in 2021, which they named "Autonomous eBuggy" („Autonomiczne eBuggy").

– We design the car ourselves: we create the tubular structure and the body of the vehicle, electrify it, add sensors and automate it, and then test it using our own ADAS systems – lists Mikołaj Chwojnicki.

„Autonomous eBuggy” project

There are 35 members operating in the ADek Science Club project team, which has been active at the WUT for almost ten years. Young engineers share a passion for electric and autonomous vehicles. Students develop skills in the field of smart systems, electricity, electronics and vehicle mechanics. Prof. Jan Sroka is the supervisor of the Club.
