I am a #Fulbrighter: Zuzanna Jarzyńska

Zuzanna Jarzyńska

– I plan to spend next year studying Urban Design, says Zuzanna Jarzyńska from the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology, a winner of the Fulbright Graduate Student Award 2020-21.

The Fulbright Graduate Student Award is granted to those interested in starting a Master’s degree program or a doctoral program in the United States. The award funds the first year of studies with an optional extension for a further year.

Zuzanna Jarzyńska will study for a Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Columbia, Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

During her stay, Zuzanna Jarzyńska will focus on Urban Design. — This concept is rather narrowly understood in Poland, that is as a discipline dealing with the design of public spaces, work on a scale between architecture and urban planning, says the Fulbright scholarship recipient. — The practice at American universities includes intensely interdisciplinary theoretical, analytical and design work, which does not always end in physical intervention. During my scholarship, I hope to undertake work on issues different from the familiar Polish urban planning contexts.

— I had known about the scholarship for a long time, I associated it with visiting professors schemes and considerable prestige, admits Zuzanna Jarzyńska. — Only recently (definitely too late!) did I learn about the existence of a program supporting students leaving to study for Master’s and doctoral studies abroad. I submitted the application after carefully planning where and what I would like to do, so, above all, the scholarship allows me to implement my previously thought-out plans.
