A special award in an international competition

Alicja Bakalarska, Julia Ciężar, and Matylda Wolska from the Faculty of Architecture received the BB Green Award in the Modular Home Design Challenge 2021 competition organized by the Bee Breeders platform. The project was recognized for the use of green and ecological materials.

The participants of the competition were asked to develop a concept of a modular house, showing what a house is and can be in the modern world.

The Warsaw University of Technology students created a house design that would meet the family's needs and location.

The filling of the house walls depends on the climate and local materials. The pillars that allow the building to be built in all conditions are the foundation. The structure consists of repetitive elements of columns, beams, and fillings between them. Depending on the needs of the family, they create walls, shelves, countertops, and wardrobes. Thanks to this, the house can be easily expanded with additional rooms.

– The module is a structure, not a body – explain the authors of the project. – The production of elements requires basic forms to be cut out of wood from which a module and then a house can be assembled. This limits the work of machines in the factory, which reduces the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
