Jakub Słupczewski from the WUT Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology represented Poland at WorldSkills, the international skills competition, in Shanghai.

How can the spatial layout of an ancient city be reconstructed by combining measurement precision with traces of its centuries-old history? A research team from the University of Warsaw Faculty of Archaeology, led by Piotr Jaworski, PhD, is currently tackling this challenge in Ptolemais, Libya. Once again, the team is supported by staff and doctoral students from our Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography: Paweł Czernic, Joanna Mazurek and Robert Olszewski.

Featuring a paper on a journal cover is an important recognition of the work’s significance - especially when two papers receive that distinction almost simultaneously. On consecutive days, papers by two WUT Faculty of Chemistry researchers - Stanisław Kulczyk, MSc, and prof. Artur Kasprzak, PhD - appeared on the covers of “Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry” and “Organic Chemistry Frontiers”. Stanisław Kulczyk designed both covers.

Eighty-eight representatives of Warsaw University of Technology have been included in this year’s World’s TOP 2% Scientists ranking, five more than last year. Compiled by Stanford University in cooperation with Elsevier, the ranking recognises researchers whose work and publications have a significant impact on the development of science worldwide.

Our doctoral student Michał Obara received the Best Paper Presentation Award at the Signal Processing: Algorithms, Architectures, Arrangements and Applications (SPA 2026) conference. The award-winning paper, presented by our researcher, focuses on improving image quality in positron emission tomography (PET), a technique used to visualise processes occurring in the body. The research is being conducted in cooperation with the National Centre for Nuclear Research as part of the IMPET project.

A team from the Warsaw University of Technology Faculty of Civil Engineering is participating in the international DTERBIM project (Driving Transformation on Energy-efficient and circular Renovation through BIM). The initiative aims to develop a method that will accelerate the transformation of Europe’s construction sector towards energy-efficient, circular renovation.

Absolute Edge Student Research Group wins at the hackathon

Our doctoral researcher, Roman Gańczarczyk, MSc, together with Prof. Renata Rybakiewicz-Sekita from Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University and Prof. Eryk D. Głowacki from CEITEC in Brno, has investigated the stability of P3HT, an organic semiconductor used in bioelectronics. The researchers have demonstrated that, when exposed to light and involved in the generation of reactive oxygen species, the material itself undergoes oxidation and gradual degradation.

Natalia Izdebska took the first place and Adam Król the second place in the tenth edition of Falling Walls Lab Wrocław. This international competition brings together students, early-career researchers and professionals who present ideas for addressing major problems and future challenges. Natalia and Adam will represent WUT at the global final in Berlin.

Karol Abratkiewicz, PhD, from the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology has published a book entitled “Introduction to Multidimensional Nonstationary Radar Signal Analysis Using Fourier Transforms”. The publication combines theory with practical applications, organises knowledge previously scattered across different sources and presents the author’s own problem-solving methods.

How many people touch the same door handle or light switch, or hold the same handrail or grab pole on a bus each day? Researchers from the Department of Chemistry and Polymer Technology at the Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University of Technology, have developed an antibacterial polymer composition – a material that can limit bacterial growth on the surfaces of components made from it.

On 22 September, the new laboratory of the Microelectronics and Photonics Competence Centre was officially opened at the Centre for Advanced Materials and Technologies CEZAMAT of the Warsaw University of Technology.

Its main objective is to develop and implement an innovative functionality for a field controller designed to operate at the point where a microgrid connects to the distribution system operator (DSO) grid. The controller, equipped with the new functionality, will enable two-way communication between microgrids and the DSO grid. This will help increase the share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the energy mix, reduce non-market redispatching, improve the management of local renewable energy sources, energy storage systems and loads within the microgrid, and increase public acceptance of green energy. 

The KNR Drone team from Warsaw University of Technology took third place in the international Student Unmanned Aerial Systems Competition (SUAS), held in Tulsa, USA, from 14 to 17 September 2026. A total of 57 teams from around the world took part in the competition.

The results of the latest edition of the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) have been announced. It is one of the world’s most prestigious university rankings, assessing institutions across 57 academic subjects grouped into five fields: natural sciences, medical sciences, social sciences, life sciences and engineering. Universities are assessed on several criteria, including the quality of publications, citations, international co-authorship and academic awards.

The latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027 (THE WUR), featuring a record number of higher education institutions, have now been published. Here is how our University performed in this year’s ranking.

Inauguration ceremony of the 2026/2027 academic year

The two universities aim to strengthen their cooperation by combining their expertise and experience even more closely than before. This integration of their potential is intended to lay the foundations for future federation and to build the position of a regional leader in the field of Engineering – Medicine – Society. The agreement was signed by WUT Rector Prof. Krzysztof Zaremba and MUW Rector Prof. Rafał Krenke.

Representatives of Japan’s High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) visited the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Świerk and the Warsaw University of Technology. During their visit, they learned about the progress of work on equipment for the Hyper-Kamiokande experiment and plans for its production.

2026 season review

Students from the WUT Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science took part in the IJCAI-ECAI 2026 conference in Bremen. It is one of the world’s leading events in artificial intelligence and holds the highest scientific ranking, A*. At the conference, our team presented a project that uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

A team led by Tomasz Gradowski, PhD, from the WUT Faculty of Physics has developed a new way of presenting ECG recordings. The results of the research have been published in the journal ‘Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine’.

A new game set in Warsaw has appeared on Fortnite, one of the world’s largest gaming platforms. In ‘The Basilisk: Roguelike Hunt in Warsaw’, players set out in pursuit of the legendary Basilisk. One of the quests takes place in interiors inspired by our University’s Main Building.
