Circular economy in construction – mortars from recycled materials

How can construction waste be transformed into high-value materials that can return to the market? This is the goal set by a research team led by Natalia Gasik-Kowalska, MSc, from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Mechanics and Petrochemistry, which is conducting research on the development of new formulations of construction mortars in which traditional raw materials are replaced with recycled components.
WUT researchers working on a scenario database for autonomous vehicles

A team led by Prof. Robert Nowak is implementing the DARTS-PL project, which aims to develop a national database of test scenarios for autonomous vehicles (AVs), taking into account road conditions characteristic of Poland. The project is being carried out by a research consortium consisting of the Motor Transport Institute (Leader) and the Institute of Computer Science at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology as the leading academic partner.

Józef Koszewski, Zuzanna Kluczek, and Łukasz Cieszyński from the Kyrion Student Research Group at the Warsaw University of Technology have established cooperation with scientists from the Mineral-X group at Stanford University. Our students became involved in developing an algorithm used in the analysis of critical materials. And it all started with… a single interview.
Energy in the age of ammonia: research on nickel-based catalysts

Dr Marta Mazurkiewicz-Pawlicka from the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering has just returned from a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at RWTH Aachen University. She worked there under the supervision of Prof. Anna Mechler – an expert in electrochemistry and the head of the Electrochemical Reaction Engineering Chair, operating within the Aachener Verfahrenstechnik research institute. The ERT team investigates electrochemical processes occurring in fuel cells (conversion of chemical energy into electrical energy) and in electrolytic processes (conversion of electrical energy into chemical energy).
Turning waste into fuel and green solvents

How can used plastics and waste oils be transformed into something that not only replaces fossil fuels but also contributes to environmental protection? Sabina Wilkanowicz, PhD, from the Warsaw University of Technology Branch in Płock, has been seeking answers to this question. Together with her team, she has been conducting research for several years on the use of electrospinning nanotechnology in recycling and biofuel production.
WUT-6 on Formula Student tracks – a recap of the 2025 season

The 2025 season was a test of design and teamwork for WUT Racing. The new WUT-6 race car debuted at three Formula Student events – in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Austria – and the races confirmed that the adopted technical solutions work under real track conditions.

This season was another stage of development and a test of a new design for the Proton Dynamic team. Students from the Warsaw University of Technology competed with their PD 2.5 race car in two prestigious Formula Student rounds: in Austria and in the Czech Republic.
How earthworms can help clean up soils

Although we usually associate earthworms with gardens and soil aeration, they can also play an important role in environmental remediation. Some species of these invertebrates are capable of cleaning up soils contaminated with crude oil and its derivatives.

SUPOMAT - the first self-service SUP board rental station in Poland

Since June, at the Żyrardowski Reservoir, SUPOMAT has been working - the first self-service rental station of Stand Up Paddle boards (SUP) in Poland. It was developed by a Polish technological start-up Zaklepuje.To, founded by Jakub Jażdżyk – student of the WUT Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology. The innovative project digitalises the water sports market by offering spontaneous and self-service 24/7 access to equipment.

KNR Rover Team and SKA Robotics are two student research groups from Warsaw University of Technology that will take part in the eleventh edition of the prestigious robotics and space competition European Rover Challenge (ERC). The teams will face their rivals in the grand finals, which will take place on 29–31 August on the campus of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków.

Professor Mariusz Zdrojek and Anna Wróblewska, PhD, from the Faculty of Physics at Warsaw University of Technology are taking part in a research project aimed at developing innovative materials for passive heating and cooling of buildings, drawing inspiration from nature. The research team will investigate how black butterflies and spiders absorb light, while white insects reflect it – all in pursuit of better thermal management in buildings.
Noise and vibration protection – BRIK railway projects at WUT

Cezary Kraśkiewicz, PhD, and Prof. Artur Zbiciak led two major BRIK (Railway Innovation Research and Development) projects at Warsaw University of Technology (WUT). These initiatives resulted in the development of prototype technologies aimed at reducing noise and vibrations caused by railway traffic. In January 2025, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. signed perpetual license agreements for the use of these solutions, marking a milestone in their practical implementation.

A bridge built on qubits

Quantum technologies are one of the key areas of interest for researchers and students from the Faculty of Physics at Warsaw University of Technology (WUT). Supporting education in this field is a newly developed QUBIT workstation – a physical platform for working with qubits, the fundamental units of quantum information. This advanced infrastructure was created in partnership with SONOVERO R&D, the developer of AIQLAB and a strong proponent of integrating science with industry.
A new class of high-performance light-emitting materials

The materials were developed by researchers from the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Warsaw University of Technology, under the leadership of Professor Janusz Lewiński. EKODEMIK – a student initiative for the future of WUT dormitories

The EKODEMIK project, developed by students from the Climate Crisis Architecture Research Group (KNAKK) at the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) Faculty of Architecture, is a comprehensive concept for transforming the student dormitory complex at Narutowicza Square. In late May, a meeting was held at the "Akademik" dormitory (DS "Akademik"), where the project authors presented it to WUT administration representatives.
