An overview of Poland’s most outstanding structures and achievements of the Polish aviation and cosmonautics, all this was brought to you by the Warsaw University of Technology in an exhibition staged at the Main Building from October 22–23, 2018.

The green face of concrete

Remarkable concrete surface with pollution-absorbing properties was laid at Rondo Daszyńskiego, a junction in Warsaw and the location of the Generation Park office park; it is a product of joint efforts of Skanska and Górażdże Cement S.A. with scientific support from the Warsaw University of Technology Faculty of Civil Engineering and others.

On October 4, 2018 awards were handed out in a competition addressing the issues of renewable energy sources. The top spot went to three students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and members of the Non-Conventional Energy Student Research Group (SKNEN) operating at the WUT Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering.

KNA MelAvio to enter an international competition

UAV Challenge Medical Express is a biannual event for the best academic teams from all over the world and professional teams engaged in building autonomous machines. At this year’s competition running September 24 to 28, 2018, the Warsaw University of Technology will be represented by students of the MelAvio Avionics Student Research Group (“KNA MelAvio”) at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering. The hosts are the University of Queensland and the Australian Research and Development Institute.

The World Para Athletics European Championships kicked off on August 20, 2018 in Berlin. Among the competing para-athletes is Aleksander Kossakowski accompanied by his guide runner Krzysztof Wasilewski, a student in his final year at WUT Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology; the duo produced a strong performance and won the 1500 m race.

The Warsaw University of Technology will receive financing from the EU to create a New Technologies Campus (NTC) and purchase specialist research equipment. The EU funds will enable the implementation of innovative projects based on the living lab concept. The Board of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship has decided to allocate over PLN 82.5 million to the project under the Regional Operational Programme of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship (RPO WM) 2014-2020. The relevant agreement was signed by Adam Struzik, Marshal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, and Professor Jan Szmidt, PhD Eng., Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology.

PW-Sat2 left Poland

In May 2018, integration, testing and preparation for the launch of PW-Sat2, a satellite built by members of the Astronautic Student Research Group, came to full completion. After that, the satellite waited in a cleanroom for the next big step: integration with a QuadPack, i.e. the container which would house the satellite during the rocket launch. The successful integration with the QuadPack took place on 26 July 2018 at the offices of Innovative Space Logistics in Delft, the Netherlands. The QuadPack will be transferred to the United States and placed in XSpace’s Falcon 9 rocket this fall.

WUT among the best 3 of Polish universities in QS WUR

According to the current QS World University Ranking, the Warsaw University of Technology was classified in the places’ range 601 to 650 (same as in the lasts two editions). WUT is the 3rd best university among only 14 Polish universities that was taken into consideration in the QS WUR.
