Warsaw University of Technology is among the universities ranked 1000+. Out of 19 Polish universities included in the ranking, three are ranked higher: the Jagiellonian University (ranked in the 501-600 bracket), as well as the University of Warsaw and the Medical University of Warsaw (ranked in the 801-1000 bracket).

The ENHANCE consortium, which comprises 7 leading European universities of technology, including the Warsaw University of Technology, will collaborate with associated partners. This will give the consortium universities support in the areas of ”Digitisation and Artificial Intelligence”, ”Sustainable Cities and Societies” and “Climate”. Associated partners will play an advisory role and help promote the results of the project.

 In view of the current political and social situation in Belarus, the Warsaw University of Technology has extended the admissions deadline to degree programmes in Polish and in English as the language of instruction for applicants from Belarus until 30 September. Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

This year, unlike any other year, the WUT Career Services Office and the participants of the program summed up the second edition of the Mentoring Program at the Warsaw University of Technology remotely.  

The prestigious grant was awarded to Marcin Patecki, Ph.D., Eng., who will implement the project The ALICE fixed-target programme layout using bent crystals at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Its goal is to expand the research potential of the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider.

On 2 September 2020, the WUT Senate approved the candidates for the positions of Vice-Rectors, put forward by the Rector, Professor Krzysztof Zaremba. All proposed candidates were approved by the Senate.

The aim of this four-year European project is to use natural language to generate explanations for decisions made by an AI system, which are understandable to non-expert users. The project members will meet at the 4^th of September in Santiago de Compostela, Spain (to the extent this is possible under COVID-19 relate restrictions) for the first training event of the network.

Due to the fact that it is necessary to plan the academic activities at Warsaw University of Technology in advance, the authorities of the University present the draft plan of studies organisation in the winter semester of the 2020/2021 academic year.

Karolina Okrasa was recognized for her master thesis titled: "Complexity of variants of graph homomorphism problem in selected graph classes" in the Outstanding Master Thesis Award category. The thesis was supervised by Paweł Rzążewski, PhD Eng. This year, the award was granted to two students. Karolina, who is now a doctoral student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science, studies the borderline of two research fields: mathematics and theoretical information science.

The European Commission has selected 24 winners of the 2^nd "European Universities" competition, who will receive EUR 5 million over the next three years for the strategic development of their collaboration.

The first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “yeast” is perfectly risen pastry dough, a glass of kefir and – for adults – a beer or glass of wine. However, yeast is a very broad umbrella term for a great diversity of species which offer numerous possibilities far beyond the culinary realm. This fascinating world, invisible to the naked eye, was the topic of our conversation with the researchers behind the WUT Yeast Collection – Jolanta Mierzejewska, Ph.D., and Karolina Chreptowicz, Ph.D., Eng., of the Faculty of Chemistry at the Warsaw University of Technology.

The project entitled: “Use of pre-purified biogas as fuel for engines and farming machines” will result in the development of dual-fuel common rail diesel engines.

Investigating the in vitro anticancer and cytotoxic properties of a new family of 2D titanium carbide and nitrate nanocrystals (MXenes) and their effect on cells is the main goal of a project implemented by Agnieszka Jastrzębska, Ph.D., Eng., of the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology.

Contest results

The world’s best universities in 54 academic subjects have been revealed. The Warsaw University of Technology was ranked in seven of them, and in five of those as No. 1 in Poland.

Our University is among the winners of the latest Microsoft Research PhD Scholarship Program in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa). As a result, one of our PhD students will be part of a collaborative research project of the Warsaw University of Technology and Microsoft Research Cambridge. 

Recruitment of candidates for PhD student to join the Microsoft Research PhD Scholarship Program is going on until July 31, 2020. Graduates of Master’s Degree programs in Computer Science or related fields, coders and candidates with a background in machine learning and computer vision are wanted.
