Interesting project of our student

Noticing and understanding urban noise as a psychophysical, social, cultural, economic and, above all, spatial phenomenon, is the main goal of the project implemented by the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology and the Warsaw Branch of the Association of Polish Architects.

Two teams from the Scientific Circle of Bridge Builders of the Warsaw University of Technology qualified for the second stage of the international steel bridge competition DE&CO '23. Our students will be the only representatives of Poland.

How can the toxicity of cesium, which is frequently used but dangerous both for people and the environment, be dealt with? What can help are nanomaterials containing sumanene. Artur Kasprzak, PhD, from the Faculty of Chemistry at the Warsaw University of Technology is currently working on it. He is the only researcher in the world who specializes in such a use of this compound.

Success of our students

The Warsaw University of Technology was visited by representatives of the National Taipei University of Technology and the Taipei Representative Office in Poland. The visit included extending the student exchange agreement, discussions about expanding cooperation and a tour of CEZAMAT.

In the latest edition of the QS by Subject ranking, we have kept the ranking of the best university in Poland in the field of Engineering & Technology and the third ranking in the category of Natural Sciences. Both rankings cover over 500 universities.

It is biodegradable and provides the result after 15 minutes – such a test detecting the virus that causes Lassa hemorrhagic fever was developed by a team of PhD students from the Warsaw University of Technology.  

Only a relatively small fraction of the solar radiation falling on photovoltaic cells produces energy. The rest of the energy is lost, mainly in the form of heat. Researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology are working on a material with a negative refractive index, which will not only reduce the heating of the cell, but will also increase the efficiency of energy generation.

What were their inspirations?

The scientist associated with the Warsaw University of Technology was honoured with a special European SEMI Award for his contribution to the development of microelectronics in Europe. He received the award on 15 February 2023 during the Industry Strategy Symposium Europe in Vienna.

A team from the Warsaw University of Technology is working on a device to monitor the vital signs of infants during sleep. The invention is designed to detect signals of cot death and enable a quick response. The project has just been awarded in the thirteenth edition of the nationwide “Student-Inventor” competition.

The design of a house constructed of soil, wood and potato cork by students of the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology was awarded twice in the fifth edition of the MICROHOME competition.

Our students from Turkey are organising a collection of donations in kind, which will help their home country combat the consequences of the earthquake. The donations should be brought to room 86 in the Warsaw University of Technology Main Building (ground floor, the former bookshop).

Getting to train or metro stations and moving inside these facilities is often a challenge, especially for persons with special needs. Now PW students want to do their bit to help.

New equipment and new possibilities

On February 3, 2023 the lists of candidates admitted to the Doctoral School of the Warsaw University of Technology were published on the Doctoral School’s website. 

Marek Kania from the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering stood on the podium of the Winter University Games in Lake Placid. Our student was third in the 500m skating race.

Sometimes the simplest solutions can make a big difference. WUT students have developed a seatbelt buckle that makes it possible to undo a seatbelt even when the standard mechanism breaks down.

With the development of biotechnology and biomedical engineering in mind, the Warsaw University of Technology and Medical University of Warsaw have signed an agreement on scientific cooperation.
