The Warsaw University of Technology has been ranked 14th in the Emerging Europe and Central Asia university ranking. This is a one-spot improvement on the last year’s ranking.

Technology to protect surfaces from icing

The issue is serious. Ice formation and build-up can be a lethal danger in many spheres of life. The risk is still greater if icing occurs on aerodynamic surfaces of aircraft flying at a high speed or on wind turbines, or on key parts of electrical wiring. Rafał Kozera, DSc, Eng. of the Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, has an idea how to solve this problem.

In Poland, the average household size has been on the decline for several years now. According to the forecasts of the Central Statistical Office from 2016, it will continue on a downward trend in the next decade. What is the quality of life of people living on a single income? A research project on this subject was conducted by Marlena Piekut, DSc, Eng., from the College of Economics and Social Sciences of the Warsaw University of Technology Branch in Płock.

Graphene infrared radiation shielding

Scientists of the Warsaw University of Technology Faculty of Chemistry and Process Engineering use graphene oxide and graphene-related compounds to develop new materials for infrared radiation protection. Their IR-GRAPH Project was funded by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR).

The world’s best universities in 54 academic subjects have been revealed. The Warsaw University of Technology was included in the ranking list for eight academic subjects: mathematics, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, telecommunication engineering, instruments science and technology, metallurgical engineering and chemical engineering.

The Warsaw University of Technology will be represented by as many as two teams in this year’s University Rover Challenge Finals, an international competition of student-built Mars rovers. The qualified teams both operate at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering; these are the Robotics Student Research Group (“KNR”) and the Astronautic Student Research Group (“SKA”). We sat with Jacek Prokopczuk (KNR Leader) and Damian Mucha (Deputy Leader for Collaboration) to ask them about getting ready for the competition scheduled to run from May 30 to June 1.
